Important Tax Dates for March 2026: Tips and Timelines

As we welcome the spring season here in the greater Orlando area, the April tax deadline is officially just around the corner. At Sandra Stearns CPA, we want to help you stay organized and avoid the last-minute rush. Here are the critical individual tax dates you need to mark on your calendar for March 2026.

March 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

For our clients in the service and hospitality industries, this is a monthly routine, but an important one. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report them to your employer by March 10 using IRS Form 4070.

You can use the official form or a signed statement listing your name, address, Social Security number, the employer’s name, the period covered, and the total tips received. Your employer uses this to withhold the correct FICA and income taxes from your wages. If your regular wages can't cover these withholdings, the uncollected amount will appear in Box 8 of your W-2, and you will handle that payment when filing your annual return.

Don't wait until you have every single document in hand. It is far better to secure your spot now. If you are missing a 1099 or a specific receipt, we can simply create a "homework list" of missing items for you to forward later. The goal is to get the process started.

A Note on Extensions

Even if you anticipate needing an extension, we should still connect soon. Remember, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. It is best to prepare a preliminary return to estimate your liability so you can pay on time and minimize interest or penalties. We can handle the extension filing for you once that estimate is ready.

Standard Filing Rules

As always, if a due date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, you have until the next business day. Additionally, if you are in a designated disaster area, deadlines may differ. You can check the latest status here:

We look forward to helping you navigate this tax season with confidence!
